Ritenour High School’s Social Justice Club is excited to share a Freedom Summer exhibit and program from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. Friday, May 1, in the upper lobby of Ritenour Auditorium.

The exhibit is presented by Wisconsin’s History Museum. A tour through the exhibit from 3:30 to 3:55 p.m. will allow visitors to navigate through various stages of the 1964 Freedom Summer in Mississippi, a civil rights project that focused on voter registration in the South. The exhibit includes posters, documents and images that capture the movement of Freedom Summer.

Following the gallery walk, Freedom Summer activist and St. Louis attorney Chris Hexter will speak at 4 p.m. about his Freedom Summer experience in Mississippi as a 19-year-old and the long-lasting impact it has had on his life. Guests will better understand how far the civil rights movement has come since 1964 and the challenges that still lie ahead. Discussions will follow the presentation until 5:15 p.m.
