Last year was the first time in 30 years that the Husky’s softball squad earned the district title, but they did not wait as long for the next one.

For the second consecutive year, the Ritenour high school softball team became district champs.

Sophomore Izzy Clark scored the lone run and junior pitcher Kaleigh Robinson tossed a two hit shutout as Ritenour downed McCluer North 1-0 in the class 4 district 5 championship game.

With a tough schedule early in the year, the Huskies struggled early in the season to a 4-8 record in mid-September.  But the Huskies improved as the season went on finishing with a 7 game winning streak.

The Huskies fell to the Marquette Mustangs in the sectional playoffs on Oct. 14 and finished their season 14-10.

The Huskies’ repeat district title came as a surprise to some.

“We weren’t expecting it but we were hoping it, it’s a new game a new ending,” third baseman Andrea Wanta said

The Huskies lost five key seniors from last year’s team, which won the school’s first crown since 1985.

With back-to-back district titles the huskies have lots of momentum heading into the years to come.

“It’s great winning back to back,” Wanta said.
