Julie Smith is an adjunct professor at Webster University and Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville. She has been an evangelist for media literacy since 1997 and teaches both introductory and advanced media literacy courses, as well as media writing and portrayals of religion in the media. Her recent publication, Master the Media: How Teaching Media Literacy Can Save Our Plugged-in World, was a sell out at the METC 2016 conference.
