An evening to remember
Why prom is important to students
May 21, 2014
After months of planning, juniors and seniors were ready for a night of fun at the biggest dance of the school year, prom.
This formal senior and junior dance was held on Saturday May 3, 2104 at Ritenour High School, with a masquerade theme.
Not everyone attended prom, but that does not mean that prom is important or special.
Senior Marlon Griffin did not attend prom, but he thinks that prom is special to a lot of seniors because it is the last time that seniors get to have fun with each other.
“For seniors it is their last year and they just want to be around each other for the last time. Seniors may not get the chance to be in the same place with each other for a while,“ Griffin said.
Although Sadeja Harper is a sophomore, she cannot wait for next year’s prom. Harper knows for sure that she will be attending her junior and senior prom. She thinks that it is important because it is the last moment to spend with friends and is like a celebration after four years of high school.
“Prom is like a wedding. Just like you cherish a wedding, you cherish prom night,” Harper said.
Junior Arial Greer attended prom at another school. Greer’s favorite thing was her dress.
“It is special because you only get two,” Greer said.
Many students anticipate this event months in advance, including preparing for it. After searching for the perfect dress or tux, building up the confidence to find a date, hundreds of dollars to buy everything needed, and hours to get ready, students were ready for the dance.
Preparation for prom takes lots of time, money and can be a little stressful.
Junior Stephon Burrell had a great time at prom. Burrell thinks that it was worth it because it was the last time with his friends.
Burrell had a great time with friends and loved wearing his tux.
“It creates memories and it is the last dance,” Burrell said.
Senior Nigia Foster had fun at prom. Foster thinks of prom as a dream dance. She loved her dress and thinks all of the preparation was worth it, because everything that went into it went towards something.
“It was the last big dance of high school and the last dance here,” Foster said.
