The St. Louis Cardinals lost the first game of the World Series 8-1.  The game was marked by uncharacteristic bad defense by the Cardinals.

The game started off with the Boston Red Sox scoring three runs in the first inning when Mike Napoli slammed the ball deep into center field allowing three teammates to make it home. The bases were loaded after Pete Kozma dropped a throw that could have led to a double play and ended the inning.  The Saint Louis Cardinals finished the first inning with out a single run.

The Red Sox didn’t stop there; they followed up by scoring two more runs in just the second inning, with another fielding mistake from Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina. The score stayed at a stalemate for innings three through six with neither team scoring any additional runs until, the Red sox once again scored an additional two runs in the seventh inning followed by another run in the eighth.

Late in the ninth inning the Cardinals finally scored one run when Matt Holliday hit 430 feet into center field.

Game 2 will take place on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:00.
