On Saturday, September 9, Ritenour’s varsity, JV, and freshman cheerleaders performed at Busch Stadium to show off the girls’ abilities and routine.
The team performed alongside dancers from other schools and from dance studios as part of the Pom, Cheer, and Dance day at Busch.
Junior Kalei Sneed, a varsity cheerleader, recounted her performance with the other cheer squads and their specialized routine for the event.
“We were one out of five or so teams and groups to perform and we spent a few weeks choreographing a routine. While the freshman team danced and cheered, varsity and some JV girls threw their teammates into stunts, then they moved into an all group dance that split off into more stunts. Varsity ended the routine in a move called brace in the back, smiling and waving to the crowd,” Sneed said.
The team was excited about the work, but acknowledged the amount of time that went into getting it perfected.
“We put a lot of hard work into the routine which practiced for weeks before. Our coach made us special bows just for the event,” Sophomore Sarah Murrell, a JV cheerleader said. “It was a good solid routine and overall throughout the day we represented Ritenour really well and in the best way. It brought our team closer and acted as a great team bonding event.”
After the performance, the teams got to stay for the Cardinals game, watching them win 4-3 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
“All around we had a fantastic time and being able to bond at the game afterwards was a big bonus,” Sneed said.
