You Don’t Know My Story – Activities Director Jerry Nolen
October 27, 2017
“Behind every person lies a story”
Ritenour High School believes that for each person there is a story. That we don’t know what the other person is going through so we must not judge others. We are sharing stories of students and staff, not to be a voyeur into others pain, but to show that we all deserve some compassion.
This story is Ritenour High School’s Activities Director Jerry Nolen, a long time resident and alumni of Ritenour, painful story of growing up in a dysfunctional family.

Suicide is a selfish act even if that isn’t the intent. Jerry’s mom’s death played a huge role in our lives. From the early days after her death when my parents stepped up to help fill the void (they helped him financially to finish college and in a zillion other ways) and I used to be afraid that I would come home to find that he had chosen to do the same thing. More recently, long before our daughter went to college, I worried that she would also make that choice. I almost convinced myself that suicide was hereditary- it isn’t. Choose life!
