Hip Hop Awards prove to be a success

On Oct. 15, 2013, one of the most highly anticipated events, the BET Hip Hop Awards, took place.

If you do not know what this is, it is an award show celebrating one of the most well known musical arts, hip-hop. A lot of performances happened; some were great, but some could have been better.  However, the one thing that always blows everything out of the water is the cyphers.  If you are new to or unfamiliar with  hip-hop, a cypher is when a group of hip-hop artist come together and rap raw and uncut free styles right off their brains.

There was one that has been pumped up the most, the TDE or hip-hop label TopDawgEnt Cypher, with members SchoolBoy Q, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, and Isaiah Rashad.

Every member killed it in their own way, from Ab-Soul not saying one explicit word and Kendrick’s tucking sensitive rappers in their pajama clothes comment (was this subliminal diss to Drake??).  When the dust settled, TDE heavily did their thing at the awards. Another cipher that made a spark was the Jon Connor, Wax, Rittz, Rapsody and Emis Killa.

Every year the Hip-Hop awards always seem to throw in an excellent rapper than can rap faster than a Blackbird airplane. Jon Conner a Flint, Mich. rapper that did his thing there. He is also a fantastic rapper overall, he is really conscious and deep.

Overall the Hip-Hop Awards were groundbreaking, and left me with a satisfying feeling of excitement. I hope that next year’s will top this incredible show.
