For most high school athletes, the dream is simple: to play the sport you love, give everything you’ve got, and maybe, just maybe, earn the chance to keep playing in college. For three of Ritenour’s biggest football standouts, that dream is becoming reality.

Seniors Amari Mu’Min, Yarmon Kirksey Jr., and Makhi Bruce have all picked up scholarship offers that are opening the door to their futures. These three aren’t just names heard on Friday nights when the announcer shouts out a big play. They’re leaders in the hallways, motivators on the practice field, and proof that hard work pays off.

Mu’Min, one of the anchors of the defensive line, recently received a Division I offer from Lindenwood University. He plans to major in history, but has more important goals to think about.

“It’s something I like to do, it’s something that keeps my family happy too, and I get an education,” Mu’Min said.

Mu’Min has 25 combined tackles on the season, and has 1 sack.

Sharing the defensive line with Mu’Min is Kirksey Jr., another powerhouse whose strength and determination stand out every time he takes the field. Kirksey Jr. is second on the team in individual tackles on defense and leads the team with 5 sacks.

Kirksey Jr. isn’t rushing to make a college decision just yet. With multiple offers on the table, he is carefully considering his next step. Wherever he goes, he plans to study sports management, a major that matches his passion for athletics and leadership.

“Football is my whole life. I mean it’s a part of me and I’m getting to do something others have not,” Kirksey Jr. said. “I’m making history.”

Bruce is also in the middle of making a big choice. The senior wide receiver and defensive back has several scholarship opportunities, so he has decisions to weigh as well. Bruce plans to major in business management, setting himself up not just for success in football but also for a strong career after the game.

Bruce has scored two touchdowns this season, one as a receiver and one on a return.

“I’m just making my family proud by doing something I love,” Bruce said.

Early mornings in the weight room, long practices under the hot sun, and late nights finishing homework are all part of their journey. Their paths prove that the process may be tough, but the results are worth it.

For MuMin, Kirksey, and Bruce, the next step of their journey is only beginning. But one thing is certain: wherever they go, they will continue to represent what it means to work hard, stay focused, and keep pushing forward.
