The 2014-2015 school year, Ritenour High School’s business and marketing clubs have excelled in local competitions.

FBLA stands for Future Business Leader of America, and this club teaches students about business. DECA stands for Distributive Educational Clubs of America, and focuses on careers in business.

Business Management teacher Cheryl Jolly-Luster is one of the leaders for FBLA. She believes that being in this club will help students succeed and get them ready for their future.

“I highly recommend getting into FBLA and DECA, it will prepare you for college, also if you are in love with business this would be a great opportunity,” Jolly-Luster said.

Senior Michael Ledbetter is one of the students in FBLA. He feels that participation in this club will help him with his future in college or in his major.

“I want to major in business when I get to college; I love business and everything about it. I signed up for FBLA to do different events; also I wanted to create different scenarios, and role play,” Ledbetter said.

Junior Sarah Mason is also in FBLA, as well as DECA. She recently won a competition and now she is going to compete in the State competition.

“I am going to State because, in FBLA I did a case study and I won 3rd place in entrepreneurship. In DECA I won 2nd place in my partnership events,” Mason said.

Business Management and Personal Finance teacher Kelly Holloway is the leader of DECA.

“You get to go to competitions and it prepares people for marketing. We also get involved with charities by collecting money for the March Dimes.” Holloway said.

Senior Isaiah Huddleston is a member both FBLA and DECA, and he enjoys his time in each.

“I love business, it is my favorite, I got into this because I want to get scholarships, and I like to do resumes. Also, I love dressing up for FBLA and DECA; it makes me feel good about myself when I dress up and win,” Huddleston said.
